VP Atiku hurts his knee, flown to London

March 11, 2007
It seems like a season of injuries and sudden illnesses for presidential candidates of major parties in the upcoming elections in Nigeria as Vice President Atiku was flown out to a London hospital some 8 hours ago after a fall in his private gym at the Vice Presidential Lounge at the Aso Rock Villa where he was said to have torn a ligament on his knees. He was flown out in one of the Presidential jets to London; a source close to the VP said that the Vice President might have flown directly to Cromwell Hospital in London.

This latest medical emergency is coming on the heels of allegations that President Obasanjo and PDP party leaders might have orchestrated the rumored death of Alhaji Umar Yar'adua in order to get him sympathy over his failing health.

A PDP source told Saharareporters that, the PDP hierarchy was getting strong feelings that party operatives weren't excited about Yar'adua's candidacy and hard started suggesting a replacement for him. The party leaders especially President Obasanjo wanted to turn his health situation into a 'positive' hence the deliberate spread of rumors that Yar'adua was dead and the dramatized acts that followed including a well choreographed reception and phone calls that brought Yar'adua back to the headlines.

On Atiku’s injuries, we have no information regarding the length of stay required by him in the London hospital or the nature of treatment required to get him back unto full health
