Obasanjo declares public holidays to stall opposition cases

April 11, 2007
The Federal government of Nigeria today declared tomorrow Thursday and Friday as work-free days in an attempt to stall upcoming court cases against key elements of the regime in Nigeria. The cases coming up tomorrow were those of the Vice President Atiku at the Appeal Court which might have forced INEC to include Atiku's name in the ballot.

Saharareporters was reliably informed that the case involving Joshua Dariye, governor of Plateu State and the federal government as well as a crucial appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court which threw out the certificate forgery case against Andy Uba were the reasons why the Obasanjo regime declared the two days as work free days. All the case were billed for trial on Thursday.

With the work free days in place, the judges of the appeal court or any other courts adjudicating on electoral and constitutional matters would have to wait until next week.

Saharareporters investigations shows that the judiciary as well as other agencies of government were not aware that the government planned to have work free days until the announcement was made earlier today.

However, the Federal High in Abuja ruled in favor of Dr. Chris Ngige today in his case against INEC and his exclusion from Anambra State gubernatorial elections slated for Saturday, a Federal High Court judge, Justice Abimbola Ogie ruled, in a judgment to clarify its earlier ruling, that INEC must include Chris Ngige's name as a candidate in the Anambra State gubernatorial elections.

Ngige is the AC candidate in Anambra State. INEC had earlier disqualified Ngige other strong candidates in the race in a brazen attempt to help Mr. Andy Uba of the PDP.
