INEC Chairman, Maurice Iwu "No Show" at Presidential Elections Tribunal

January 27, 2008
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu, this morning shunned the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Iwu failed to show up to respond to the questions contained in the interrogatories served on him by the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The proceedings earlier scheduled for today, which was the adoption of briefs indicating the close of argument could, however, not take place because the Supreme Court had last Friday ordered Iwu to respond to Atiku’s questions.

At the proceedings this morning, the judgement was read to the tribunal members but Iwu was not in court and he did not send answers to the interrogatories served on him to the tribunal.

The tribunal Chairman, Justice James Ogebe, adjourned the matter till 4 February to enable Iwu comply with the order of the Supreme Court.

The INEC boss’s answers to the questions would form part of the tribunal processes and this necessitated the adjournment of the matter until Iwu’s answers are received
