Oyo State Correspondent of The NEWS Magazine and PM NEWS newspaper, Mr. Adesina Oluwagbemiro who was arrested in Oyo town last Saturday at the installation of Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) as the Bamofin of Oyo Kingdom and his wife, Mrs. Mercy Modupe Babalola as Yeye Bamofin of Oyo kingdom is bid to appear before the Divisional Police Station, Atiba Oyo tomorrow Friday July 18, 2008. The invitation was part of the bail conditions granted.

The reporter was arrested at the venue of the event on the order of the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jimoh Osi-Ebeh when performing his statutory assignment.

According to the eyewitness, the saga started when a policeman suddenly came and forcefully pushed him at the back shouting “leave”, the attitude he detested, correcting the policeman that rather than forcefully pushing him, he should have told him to leave.

The policeman who got angry at the correction continued to forcefully push him away thereby not allowing him to work again. The Area commander who was watching at a close range walked down and assisted his junior officer to push the reporter away saying, “If you don’t want to be push by a police office, you will leave this place”.

Immediately the reporter pointed out to him that he was not there by his own evolution but sent by his organisation, the police boss replied, ”I was also here officially”. Within a twinkle of an eye, he ordered his boy to arrest the reporter and take him to the police station, the order which about five mobile policemen instantly carried out by pouncing on the reporter.

Despite the intervention of six security officers, civilians and some policemen working with Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, he maintained that his order should be carried out.

“What is this man doing here? I say take him away. Take him to the station and let us see who has power here”.

The mobile policemen immediately held his trousers and started dragging him into a patrol vehicles parked and wheeled him away.

It was gathered that upon the call made to the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State CID Oyo, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, the man declined releasing him saying that he could only be released on bail.

A lawyer who claimed working in the Chamber of Chief Afe Babalola who came for the release of his younger brother, Niyi Omolade, a photographer earlier arrested decided to extend helping hands to the reporter and processed his bail with his brother.

He was however released to the lawyer after 5pm after writing a statement on a condition that the lawyer must produce him on Friday July 18, 2008.
Our newspaper gathered that the Area commander mal-treated many journalists which included a reporter from Ekiti Today among others.
