The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) condemns the betrayal of trust and the disrespect to the palace of the Amayanabo of Buguma by the arrest of Sobomabo Jackrich after honouring an invitation for a peace parley brokered by the elders in Rivers state.
This incident which looks like a set-up has confirmed our worst fears that we have an insincere government that should not be trusted.
It is unfortunate that Mr Jackrich acted unilaterally without the involvement of international mediators and a coordinated peace process MEND would prefer.
The Northern dominated JTF has shown gross disrespect for a royal father in the Niger Delta. This is something the army will not do to the Sultan of Sokoto or the Emir of Kano who are sustained from the oil that comes from the fields of Buguma.
This insult, insincerity as well as the continuous show of bad faith in the handling of Henry Okah's matter brings us closer to an an all out oil war.
MEND is deliberating on its next line of action and the next few weeks will be decisive.
