Bafarawa Must Apologize to The North Or Else...

January 26, 2009
A  Journalist once opined that; One of the intriguing things about justice is its extraordinary patience, it gives crooks enough time to fool themselves, in the same vein it has the devastating capacity to ultimately expose their hypocrisy, that seems to be the scenario the defeated/ DPP Presidential hopeful called Bafarawa  depicted in his interview with the SUNDAY SUN of 30th November 2008 vol.  5 No 298 , I  culled from the interview:  "OUR OF GOVERNMENT CONSTRUCTED OVER 1000 KILOMETERS ROAD ,PRODUCED OVER  50 MEDICAL STUDENTS ,BUILT A TIME TESTED STATE MEDIA HOUSE AND HOOKED OUR PEOPLE TO  THE NATIONAL GRID, THESE ARE FEATS THAT WERE NOT ACHIEVED BY THE SARDAUNA, SHAGARI AND KANGIWA`S GOVERNMENT PUT TOGETHER;"

It is incontrovertible Bafarawa vomited these un- parliamentarian, reckless and contemptuous words against the person of the legendary Sardauna Gamji `Dankwarai`  true to a character, when the public discuss on the subject matter begins to pump its venom on Bafarawa, a close political associate of Bafarwa had predicted that, he  may run to court to hopelessly fight this first rough draft of history by seeking for an interpretive relief from the court, that  certain Francis Ottah Agbo the interviewer misquoted him ,unfortunately no body can fight History and it would certainly be very harsh on him for belittling the everlasting tremendous accomplishment of the legendry Sardauna to the North and the entire Nigerian Nation .

I wish to un-equivocally put it to Bafarawa that  he   goofed and  even if he chooses to spend his stupendous wealth on likes of Walter lippmann the world most celebrated American columnist, regarded in 1914 as the foremost clarifier of complicated press interviews, master of the prose of interpretative journalism, his acidic comments against the premier of the North is beyond journalistic repairs ,the Nigerian Nation    could now see that Bafarawa lacks the basic skills to put the event of the day in its proper relationship to the History of yesterday and the dream of tomorrow  and certainly it has dawned on all of us that his controversial speech at Arewa Consultative Forum was deceptive, his speech makers hypocritically selected words  to fool the North  and when it dawned on him that he can no longer fool the north in pursuit of his in ordinate ambition he now turned against the pillar of the North.Aldous Huxley cited in the grabber `words are magical in the way they affect the minds of those who use them A mere matter of words we say contemptuously, forgetting that words have power to mold men’s thinking, or canalize their feelings.`

I had never sat and visualized for one day that a politician nursing the ambition of becoming the president of this country either from the west south or east  would assume too much airs to  go to the press to tell the gullible Nigerians that his achievement had eclipsed what  the likes of the Sardaunas, the Great zik or Chief Awolowo had accomplished for this country ,I was reading a  scholarly article authored by Allan Beveridge of the Queen Margaret Hospital with a caption `The madness of politics, in the first sentence  came  a question mark ,Is the prime minister mad? The question was heard towards the end of the Thatcher era, when the prime minister was widely perceived to have become crazed and grandiose. because her grasp on reality was slipping and she was making statements that were palpably absurd ,I don’t need the counsel of any neuropsychologist to tell me that there is an established case of delusional sense of self-importance for any Northerner to belittle Sardauna in such a bizarre manner as done by Bafarawa, my readers Bafarawa has secured himself an accommodation in the footnote of history by being the first Northern politician  devoid  of sense of modesty claimed  to have  surpassed the Sardauna`s achievement ,certainly Bafarawa would have a date with History and without any sentiment it would never be too palatable for him.

Let me make an attempt to rummage through the recent press archives so as to enable the public make a comparison on the duo, here  are  some of the excerpts from the Daily Trust of 12 October 2008 written by certain Aminu Mohammed `The  northern Governors Forum is planning to set up a foundation in his Name(Sardauna) which according to the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Dr Yahaya Kuta`it will be one of the best in the world to cap it all ,kuta said the foundation will represent value system that will be promoted and celebrated for the future generation to emulate ,as it will show case  the lifetime achievements of Sir Ahmadu Bello which they hope to preserve for posterity., in the same coin one  of  the late premier’s neighborss in sokoto Alh Umar Farouk Usman,  simply described him as a `selfless human being who accommodated ,tolerated and embraced all kinds of people regardless of religion or ethnic background. I  have never in my life come across a selfless human being so honest, kind, generous, accommodating  tolerant, respectful and who sees patience as a primary virtue like the Sardauna of Sokoto` it is on record the sardauna was knighted by the Queen for his service to Nigeria and  the North.

Still from  the press archives the VANGUARD of  29th July 2008 hit the street with a banner headline ` ‘HOW EX-GOV BAFARAWA LOOTED SOKOTO TREASURY’-EFCC  .The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) yesterday begged a Federal High Court in Abuja  not to release, for now the international passport of former Governor of Sokoto State, (Dr) Attahiru Bafarawa to him. The commission said he was planning to run away from the country to escape arrest and prosecution for abuse of office  and corruption, while he held office between 1999-2007.The anti graft agency made the disclosure on a day it gave the Abuja division of the Federal  High Court,  graphic details of how the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, (Dr) Attahiru Bafarawa looted billions  of naira from the treasury between 2004 and 2006.It  said arrangements were in the pipeline to arraign the ex –governor before the court, the same Bafarawa  who claimed to be championing the cause of the North discriminated against Northerners in Sokoto state, for he branded them as non indigenes, worse still   elder statesmen of National refute who dutifully served the North and Sokoto State ,the likes of late Muhamadu Jega were never spared by his arrogance for he stopped the payment of their pension and directed that they should go back to their respective  states to claim their pensions ,my archival discovery are very lamentable ,as a writer I should not be seen to be too judgmental on my chosen topic, I would humbly allow the readers to compare Notes.

For the records Bafarawa in the same interview contemptuously made these remarks `I did not visit Obasanjo for once and I would not go there because Obasanjo was, remains the number one enemy of Nigeria today, He is incurably corrupt and wicked, `Bafarawa alleged, on president Yar`adua  he said ,As I talked to you Yar`Adua cannot imagine he is the president of Nigeria. He is still dreaming and asking himself a question; Is it true I am now the president? May be after  three years, if the Supreme court does not vitiate his election,he come to realize that he is president  and then wake up from his slumber`, he re-named PDP as peoples destructive party, my  dear readers  Bafarawa has now drawn a battle line between fallacy/arrogance and honour ,I humbly call on the Adamu Adamus, Mohahmmed Harunas ,Maishanu’s, Garbadeens, and the Jegas to put Bafarawa in his rightful place of History timeously before he pollutes the minds of the up-coming generation  in North, on  his comment on Gov. Wammako, Bafarawa`s mind must have been set asunder on seeing  that Gov Wammakko has now turned the ancient city of Sokoto in to a very big construction site with developmental projects in every corner of the state capital.
