Ekiti Saga: Shape of things to come

April 30, 2009

Whoever questioned the capacity and inclination of this country to dazzle and amaze in equal measure sure needs a pip into this Ekiti imbroglio to find out that we sure have a very long way to go, For that fat Hen junketing around the country in the name of Re-branding, she sure needs to put on the brakes and ask if this is a battle she really believes can be won, she needs a deep retrospection on if she is really practicing her vocation or just taking on a job that is akin to curing a patient of terminal cancer.

It has always been said that Nigerians have short memory, that we just seem to forget so easily but i have always dis-agreed with that line of thought why because with the speed at which the menacing and Rampaging PDP with all the Sabre-rattling exhibit and take out their collective insanity on the entire populace day by day by their actions, u will need to have a very stubborn number six and Razor sharp mental faculty to be able to withstand the actions of those rapscallions and still remain sane enough to even be able to remember your first name correctly, On the contrary we are the people with the greatest piece of mental intuiton for with all the ambush at our Mental Neurones at least there hasn't been an outbreak of madness in the land, at least i still say good morning to people and they respond correctly, i still get a 'Hi' reply to a 'Hello' so we are still surviving, we are more tough than the whites give us credit for.

How can we rightly claim to be practicing anything close to Democracy when the people's vote can never count, when every single election is taken as a do-or-die battle to extend the PDP Kingdom, how can we continue to allow the antics of this Never-do-well's and Disgruntled few affect the rest of us. I have always said that Election Rigging is worse than Armed Robbery because when u take away the only single power of an individual to elect who leads him or her, when the sanctity of the ballot box is not respected, whoever emerges from the 'Carry go' politics owes his allegiance not to the people but to the arm-chair champagne popping God Father who rigged him into power and the rest they say is history, Governance takes flight for rascality, Transparency and Accountability is stood on its head, financial prudence is re-branded giving way to daylight Financial Heist and malfeasance while the people wallow in poverty and bemoan their fate until the tenure of the Usurper expires {that is if he or she will not seek for tenure elongation whether it is constitutional or not} and the vicious cycle continues.

Take a closer look at the events taking place in Ekiti state, a state which prides itself as having the highest number of intellectuals and professors in the entire country, a state that is arguably the smallest in land mass and population in the entire country. A certain Kayode Fayemi, a bloody Progressive to the core, the brain behind Radio Kudirat that rattled Sani Abacha and his blood thirsty hench men, that made the military despots ponder at such ingenuity went to the polls in April 14 to ask for the consent of Ekiti people to lead them against a Segun Oni who placed 11th at the PDP primaries with just 13 votes but was imposed on the PDP by the all-conquering C-IN-C Pres. Obasanjo who incidentally imposed a state of emergency on this same state at the time to help his lackey Oni get a smooth ride to Government house through the instrumentality of Gen. Adetunji Olurin equally imposed on the state with a well crafted 'Get Oni to Govt. House Script', a man hardly known in his own ward with sheer nothing as his antecedents apart from the fact that Mr. Know all is backing him, For sure the difference was clear to the Ekiti people, to use their voting power to rid the state of the then President's lackey, a President shameless enough to commission a single Federal road two times in his tenure with little or no work on the road, it was just like Good versus Evil, White versus Black, plastic versus China white. After trooping out in their numbers defying the rain and the elements to vote for their man who in their words is "Popular than Coca-Cola", their wishes were ambushed by this unrepentant vote Robbers, against popular will Segun Oni was declared 'Winner' by INEC that has over-time been acting like an interested party instead of an umpire.

The people spoilt for war, the atmosphere was extremely fragile, it was tense to say the least but Fayemi being a good student of History enthused that his vision and ambition to lead Ekiti is not worth the death or blood of a single person in Ekiti that the prevailing riot will cause, He expertly calmed the war agitated people down with his Obama-like Progressive skills in Oratory, that day i believed the saying that when u have a true born leader, followership always follows as the people listenened to their icon, their Pathfinder to tow the path of peace and reclaim their mandate through democratic means. An array of SANS were recruited with the tacit and unwavering support of the last man standing, the Asiwaju of Lagos State, the indefatigable and swash buckling Gadfly of south west politics Sen. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to help through the courts in restoring the peoples hope in democracy. And true to their expert skills in law, the senior Advocates articulatively argued the case in the courts and the judiciary acting as the bastion of justice listenened. On the 17th of February 2009 they rightfully nullified the purported 'election' of Engr. Segun Oni and ordered a re-run in 63 of the 177 ward of the state cut across 10 local Govts. where the Rampaging PDP rigged with shameless impunity. Once again the people heaved a sigh of relief that they again have a chance to re-echo what they said on April 14, 2007 with the power of their votes once again.

As it has turned out, they heaved the sigh too quickly as the unrepentant PDP hawks who the people erroneously believed should have taken those two years to do a lot of soul searching planned the bigger shocker and with the Pitiful Iwu still retained for a job well done in 2007 as the INEC chairman, the people being humans even though traumatized it now shows exhibited a little dose of naivety to think the leopard  will ever shed a single spot. With Prince Dayo Adeyeye manning the post of Propaganding and spreading of falsehood through the media, Sen. Ayo Arise, Sen.Iyiola Omisore as the recruiter of thugs and Hooligans, and the Nigeria Police who of late has been acting like an arm of PDP manning the Security arm to be substituted with the Nigerian Army if they dare exhibit the slightest dose of incompetence in the art of Rigging and Sen.Isiaka Adeleke{Senate committee chairman on INEC} a core PDP man amusingly serving as the Nigerian Senate Observer in an election a PDP man is up against an AC man they felt it was a fait Accompli, a done deal.

But like every plan theirs had a loop hole, an angle they couldn’t see having being blinded by greed and lust for power. They never believed a Nigerian can ever refuse the lust of filthy lucre, they never envisaged that a certain Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo {the Ekiti Resident Electoral Commissioner} will refuse to play ball even with all the Federal Paraphernalia hoodwinking, coercing and Pressurizing her to do so. The woman who has now most certainly written her name in gold, who can now easily rub shoulders with the Soyinka's, the Fawehinmi's, the Agbakoba's and the Edwin Clarke's of this world rose in defence of free will, of franchise, of popular public Opinion, of democracy by refusing to call the mutilated votes of ido/osi local govt. where the PDP now working from answer to question has now calculated that 15,000 votes needs to be added to equal the votes of Fayemi. if we think we have heard enough of the melo drama we were thoroughly mistaken, the shameless Iwu declared that the woman who is now an icon of motherhood and womanhood is ill from an undisclosed ailment. Trust the ever nosey poking Nigerian press who then asked 'Doctor' Iwu what hospital the woman is and what ailment a woman heard talking on Radio few minutes ago was suffering from to which 'Doctor' Iwu shamelessly replied 'Election Pressure', Maurice Iwu for sure is irredeemable, i would have told him to go to hell but i really think he is there already.

As at the time of writing this piece the female icon and bastion Mrs. Ayoka Adebayo has honorably resigned her position as the REC of Ekiti, the drama for sure will get spicy and maybe bloody in the days ahead but the real question that readily comes to mind is: If 10,000 policemen superintended by DIG John Ahmadu with two Commissioners of Police, 5,000 INEC staffs with three REC's from Kogi,Ondo and Kwara assisting the existing Ekiti REC herself and the INEC chairman himself on ground in Ekiti cannot in a day conduct free and Fair, peaceful Election in just 63 wards in Ekiti State the smallest and the least populated state in the country, then it begs the million Dollar question: What really happened in Nigeria in the Governorship and state house's of Assembly election on that fateful day of 14th of April, 2007 in the entire 36 states and F.C.T. Abuja? This for sure is just a tip of the ice berg on what will happen in the upcoming 2011 elections. For Mr. 7-Point Agenda and Electoral reforms, Nigerians are not fooled by the sloganeering going on, we all knew it was a  smokescreen to douse the tension of the 2007 general elections that he started shouting Electoral Reforms, we knew all along he was morally bankrupt to talk of Reforms when he was the soul ultimate No.1 beneficiary of the Do-or-Die Elections, i say again 'NIGERIANS ARE NOT FOOLED'.

This is just akin to telling a 9 month Pregnant woman that her tummy is as flat as that of 'Beyounce' or 'Shakira'. For sure Ekiti represents the shape of things to come, Nigerians are watching, God and Allah too. For Mrs. Akunyili with the  "Good People  Great Nation" Rebranding theme i say; 'Good People' i totally agree, but 'Great Nation' is to what the famous Zebrudaya of the New Masquerade fame will say 'Fah Fah Fah Foul'!!!!!!!!!!!!!
