Obama´s Nobel Award Damns PDP Planned Amnesty Celebration

October 8, 2009

" The wisest man who ever lived, Solomon, once said, it’s better to spend your time at funeral than a party... if you’re at party, the next day you wake up... might have a hangover. It was all for vanity, it passes away. Those that go to funerals, that could be your loved one lying there, that could be you lying in the casket. It brings the issue of life and death before one ..." said churchgoer Steven Schneider to an FBI argent in 1993 over the investigation on the WACO Adventist religious palaver that engulfed Texas.

PDP should take time out to visit the funeral or mortuary rather than their planned Abuja party. They’d better be humbled and sober to see the shades of deaths and suffering their policies of deceptions and corruption have caused the living and dead with visit to morgues and funeral places in Nigeria. The family of Guardian journalist killed last month, those who’ve lost loved ones to bad roads or via fire death caused by generating power sets would understand what I’m talking about.

In view of the swell celebration planned by PDP to sing 'Kumbaya my Lord' to president Yar´Adua for wishful-thinking of success story over Niger Delta amnesty, one can’t help but ask: supposing Yar´adua won the Noble Award for Peace, what would PDP people have done to massage and pat upon their empty wayward egos?

The Nigerian Media was abuzz of a planned sweet dilly-dally celebration by PDP, speculated to take place tomorrow being Saturday. This matter has been killing me softly since I read of the would-be grand party for Niger Delta amnesty. But not any more now. The aftermath of the speech given by Obama as per the outcome of his Noble Award has buoyed up my feelings.

I challenge the PDP in the name of real decency to follow world trend and cancel the much-publicised Niger Delta fiesta aimed at kowtowing to Yar´adua for nothing sake. PDP should take cue from president Obama´s speech where he humbly proclaimed that it wasn’t his accomplishment that earned him the Nobel award but the goodness in America’s statecraft. Let’s say that it was out of false modesty that Obama made that statement - that, he actually craved the said Award inwardly like every human would. Even so, many people, more so leaders like president Yar´adua haven’t learn how to avoid fishing compliments. Obama has shown that every good leader must try to avoid his or her overblown ego.

And it’s that mad urge to hug the headlines that Yar´adua would gather his PDP bunch for a merry go round in Abuja for his zero achievement.

Is it for the proverb that an:’ idle man is the devil’s workshop' that PDP would gather to celebrate a non-issue? Or is it the wisecrack that institution and situation has the capacity to make buffoon out of unprincipled men and women that PDP would make a fall guy out of their members before the glare of the whole world? It’s no longer news that PDP members are very weak in the knees when it comes to institutional corruption. But what exactly is the situation that’d drive adult males into this kind of lowlife behaviour? Lest we forget that Asari Dokubo and his lawyer Festus Keyemo are downplaying the president’s power to grant amnesty in a Nigerian court of law.

PDP members have insulted our intelligence enough. It’s not uncommon to hear a PDP convert hail governor for marrying one of president Yar´adua´s daughters or for digging borehole as achievement. Praising them sometimes for making the rain to rain and sun to shine in Nigeria. In local government areas, you’d hear them hailing council chairmen for buying and distributing string tanga for women wing of PDP. What a lot of nonsense! We’ve had bellyful of this PDP sycophancy that’s trending across Federal to local government levels. Officeholders in Nigeria get paid for the work they do – it’s totally insane to keep thanking them for those.

Yar´adua as a self-professed servant leader should have desisted PDP from organising such a hoax party since he gets paid for performing presidential function. He was there when Ondo State governor told well wisher not to advertise his birthday on the Media lately. The president should’ve copied after such good sense of purpose than the grand show of shame they’ve planned for Saturday. This move is unstreetsmart, unintelligent, morally and emotional bankrupt. How do you celebrate trifle in the midst of pressing problems and developments that remained unarrested? Are they partying thanking Yar´adua for doing some kind of favour to Nigerians or what? This party must be stopped. This behaviour isn’t trendy nowadays in this age of the Internet and Sahara Reporters.com.

PDP should ban the party for Niger Delta amnesty slated for Saturday. They should downplay whatever Yar´adua progress, which is their figment of imagination. They all saw president Obama today refuse to accept such juicy International honour for his private self. President Yar´adua should practice the servant-leader he preaches. Servant leaders don´t puff up themselves with so much worldly things as if they´re the singer Puff Daddy.
