December 28, 2009

Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wammakko, along with some of his political associates from Abuja axis are travelling to Dubai this week for an urgent meeting and discussion over their unforeseen problem on the setting of the Tribunal Court which is going to handle the gubernatorial case of Sokoto state.

The Appeal Court is expected to sit on 18th January, 2010 to hear the appeal judgment of lower court of Sokoto which was filed by the DPP gubernatorial candidate, the first judgment is a divided among the judges over the qualification of the candidature of governor Wammako and PDP.

Part of the team to Dubai meeting include Alhaji Adamu Aleiro Minister of FCT, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, Chief Judge of FCT Alhaji Lawal Gummi and former President of the Court of Appeal Alhaji Umaru Abdullahi who have team up to support governor Wammako’s battle against Bafarawa for long.

The meeting is expected to discuss and determine the proposal change of venue of the Bafarawa’s trial from Sokoto, as it was reported that Wammako’s camp are jittery and disappointed with the way and manner the case were handled by the Sokoto state judiciary.

The poor outcome of dwindling popularity of Wamnako’s government and general sympathy created on Bafarawa over his case are part of the meeting agenda. Already media teams are on standby to see the effective media propaganda within the 1st week of the year.

Another issue as reported by the sources is the adamant stand of the new President of the Court of Appeal of not releasing the names of new Judges of the Court of Appeal to Wamakko’s foot soldiers.

The Sokoto state election petition gubernatorial appeal has been unduly delayed and there is no end in sight.

Recently some elders include prominent politicians of Sokoto state send their petitions through the office of the new President Court of Appeal, requesting his urgent attention over the approval of constituting of the panel that will hear the appeal in the interest of Justice to Sokoto people.

The Sokoto state gubernatorial elections Appeal enter its second year after the first judgment by the lower election tribunal in Sokoto.

A sources within the government confirmed that the meeting is conveyed by the governor to discuss and bring out the solution over his present political predicament with the former governor Bafarawa, as he is accused to be behind his travails and persecution by the EFCC.

The meeting is prepared to make urgent and cohesive move to stop or frustrate any move by the new President of the Court of Appeal to appoint some radical judges of the Court of Appeal who are not favored to do their bidding over the handling of this appeal.

Already, President of Court of Appeal Hon Justice Isa Ayo Jelani OFR, have ordered the submission of the names of new judges who are to handle the Sokoto Appeal Tribunal case to his office and he is making a final screening to appoint best and good character judges to handle the case, different from his predecessor controversial stand of treating the case with hand-gloves.

Sokoto state gubernatorial case have taken long than all other related election cases in Nigeria, because of the interest of former President of the Court of Appeal and his friend Chief Judge of Abuja who are accused to be close ally of governor Wammako.

The meeting is expected to last for two days before governor Wammako leave for Malaysia along with the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar. The meeting according to sources is secret as no aides were allowed to speak with press.

Already Sokoto state government have issues press statement in the state own media claiming that Governor Wammako is travelling to Dubai and Malaysia on an official visit along with only two of his associates. They are governor Wammako’s business associate and front Alhaji Muktar Maigona and Commissioner of Science and Technical Education.
