Obasanjo's sermon of deceit and diet of lies-CNPP

January 21, 2010

Conference of Nigeria Political Parties {CNPP} was outraged by the sermon of deceit and diet of lies dished out yesterday by the foremost beneficiary of the Nigeria Project, ex-president Chief  Olusegun Obasanjo at the Media Trust annual lecture series; to the effect he tried hard to cover the ill-motive of imposing President Umaru Musa Yaradua on Nigerians.

CNPP’s outrage is predicated on the fact that inspite of all his pontifications and rationalizations; Chief Obasanjo could not cover the electoral fraud he committed against the nation where he is the foremost beneficiary; but rather brazenly accepted that he imposed Umaru Musa Yaradua on Nigerians as president; and regrettably Chief Obasanjo up to date has not been arrested for criminally violating the constitution.

His ill motive frankly speaking then was that as a sick man, Yaradua might die before the election upon which Chief Obasanjo will harvest the constitution and elongate his tenure. That Yaradua has enough intellectual capacity, sufficient personal integrity and is broadminded politically, religiously and socially are cock and bull story and after-thought of a failed con man.

We are yet to find anywhere in the sermon where he mentioned election or admonished Nigerians for voting for Yaradua out of over 20 presidential candidates in the 2007 election, and we do not know which section of the constitution that empowered  Chief Obasanjo to after medical audit to make one a president? The truth of the matter is that his Do-or-Die plan was elaborate and Nigerians are yet to recover from the culture of impunity he unleashed on the country he so much loved.

In the sermon Chief Obasanjo said, ‘Nobody picked Yaradua so that he will not perform. If I do that, God will punish me. Yes, because I love this country so much and there is no reason to do that’. He went further to state the three criteria he used to vote for Yaradua on behalf of Nigerians, who in his wisdom has no inalienable right to vote.

CNPP subscribes to the school thought that posits that Chief Obasanjo deliberately poisoned the chalice, as vengeance to Nigerians who denied him the 3rd Term, which he fought with all presidential might; for there were other Northners in the race like Muhammadu Buhari who has sufficient personal integrity if not more than President Yaradua.

Whereas, we acknowledge his advice to Yaradua to follow the path of honour and morality, by availing himself of section 145 of the constitution; however we call for restitution on the serial breach of the constitution by Chief Obsanjo while in office.

Consequently, CNPP challenges the security agencies to arrest Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for denying Nigerians their inalienable right to vote for president of their choice; as stipulated in the constitution. Enough of sermon of deceit and diet of lies, from Chief Obasanjo.
