Save Nigeria Group {SNG} South East Zone after a careful review of the State of the Nation; commends the G53, Senate, Eminent Elders Group, 3G,ACF, Ohanaeze, Afenifere, Lawyers of Conscience, EU, USA, France, UK  and host of other patriots for reinforcing the position of Save Nigeria Group that President Umaru Musa Yaradua must as a matter of urgent national importance avail himself of Section 145 of the Constitution and transfer power to the Vice President.
We were outraged by the tepid position of the South East Governors on the constitutional crisis that assails the country resulting in power vacuum for over 60 days. The leadership vacuum at the federal government has exposed Nigeria to several damaging consequences including its listing in the countries of interest in the war on terror an the collapse of presidential amnesty to Niger Delta militants. That South East governors did not recognize these dangers (since some of the South East states are in the Niger Delta) is shocking and exposes the lack of insight and foresight of these self-serving governors. For the avoidance of doubt, we disassociate completely the patriotic and progressive people of South East from the shameful statement credited to the governors of the region condemning calls for President Yaradua to transfer power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. The people of South East stand with other Nigerian patriots to say ‘Enough is Enough’. Very soon, Save Nigeria Group- South East will mobilize the South East people to end this avoidable crisis.

SNG is of the candid view that failure by President Yaradua and his handlers to listen to the overwhelming voice of reason is a race against time. It is also a constitutional breach for the corporate interest of Nigeria must at all times be placed above self interest. He still has opportunity to redeem himself by complying with the wishes of Nigerians and transfer power to the Vice President, pending his full recovery.

It is clear that President Yaradua in his present state cannot preserve nor defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In this vein, we call on the National Assembly to set a definite deadline for the president to resign or comply with the requirement of Section 145 and hand over to the Vice President, failing which the National Assembly should commence impeachment process against him.

The impeachment for the avoidance of doubt will not based on his illness for we are all human beings prone to illness; but on the fact that President Yaradua has grossly failed to adhere and honour the Oath of Office which he swore to uphold; which is enshrined in the Seventh Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, ‘I….do solemnly swear/affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that I will preserve and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Anambra Election

Nigeria is today confronted with urgent national questions, prominent among which are the post amnesty programme and the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election. The two are in danger of collapse, going by the threat of MEND to return to the Creeks and the allegations of manipulation of the Voters Register and hijack of the election materials by Professor Muarice Iwu and his cohorts.

As noted earlier the forthcoming Anambra State election, which has been adjudged both by local and international observers as a milestone, standard gauge and barometer on which to measure the 2011 general elections is having problems. Several irregularities have already been noted. We dare say that danger signal is hovering in the air. The danger signal is alarming to the extent that the Voters Register is being queried. It is important that these issues be sorted out immediately to guarantee free and fair election in Anambra on February 6, 2010. The fate of the 2011 elections and the fate of democracy in Nigeria may depend on the Anambra election. This is not time for politics as usual. This is not time to deny the people their right to choose their leader. This is not time for another Ido-Osi
