The commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the transformation of civil rights icon, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti comes up on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The event is being organized to memorialise our departed hero and also offer further opportunity to share thoughts on national issues of grave and common concerns and crucially heighten the awareness for common action.
The commemoration of the fourth anniversary of the transformation of civil rights icon, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti comes up on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The event is being organized to memorialise our departed hero and also offer further opportunity to share thoughts on national issues of grave and common concerns and crucially heighten the awareness for common action. In the recent times, the country appears to be adrift and approaching very turbulent headwinds whilst tolerating a president in absentia. Electoral and constitutional challenges are complicating the already complex socio-political situation to further put a stress on stability. Our democracy has become extremely fragile (some argue there was never one) and on a free-fall. We are caught between the optimism of eventual recovery and the pessimism of spontaneous disintegration.
This event, therefore, is organized to facilitate the development of a popular approach for a more effective intervention. Sparking and sustaining the drive of a sustainable solution! We cannot wait and watch the house fall.
The Public Lecture will take place on the 10 February 2010 at the LTV 8 Multi-purpose Hall, in Ikeja from 11.00am with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour. Prof. Adele Jinadu is the Guest Lecturer and his presentation is on ‘Democracy in Nigeria: Releasing Peoples’ Power.
