* AnambraReports: Brief fighting at Akwa ward, Ifitedunu against securitymen on suspicion of bias. Many if not most ppl can't find their names in d registerSaharareporters has just received tips from highly reliable sources about a plot between INEC officials in Anambra and PDP governorship candidate Charles Chukwuma Soludo to steal today’s governorship election. Voting took off today on a shaky and fraudulent note as most voters across the state could not locate their names on the voters register. Election materials arrived late to most polling booths.
Polling officials are asking people to write down their names on sheets of paper as most could not find their names on election voters registers provided by INEC. An election observer told Saharareporters that the election has become a logistics nightmare. “We are aware that over three pallets of ballot papers went missing last night,” he said, adding that a few security agents have told observers that the ballot papers were diverted by officials of the People's Democratic Party working for Mr. Soludo. “As I’m talking to you now, massive stuffing of ballot boxes is going on,” said the observer.

In Onitsha, at a polling station right next to Immaculate Heart Church, some men wearing police uniforms chased off voters and made away with all ballot boxes.

At numerous polling centers around the state capital, Awka, voters who lined up as early as 9 a.m. were unable to vote until about 1:30 p.m. when INEC officials finally arrived with polling materials.

Saharareporters yesterday reported an attack on election observers by thugs hired by the Soludo campaign.

Mr. Soludo, the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who amassed a huge fortune while letting bank CEOs bankrupt their banks with bad loans to cronies, has been fingered in a cash slugfest with Andy Uba, the Labour Party governorship candidate, over who can offer the most bribes to INEC officials in Anambra and Abuja.

Our sources indicated that Uba had wooed some INEC officials with heavy bribes, but that Soludo had managed to enlist security agents to his corner.

Saharareporters calls on those witnessing the “election” in Anambra to send us an e-mail to [email protected] or send a text message to +1-646-704-5433 to report what they have seen in their areas.

Anambra Elections Round-Up

Fighting has been reported at Ifitedunu, Dunukofia local government of Anambra State. The people are accusing security men of bias. Most of the people cannot find their names in the voters' register and are not being allowed to vote.

Meanwhile, a PDP chieftain of the area Prince Arthur Eze, a heavy financier of the party is reportedly engaging in voter intimidation in Ukpo. He is said to be openly campaigning at Ekwueme Hall at Oye Market and promising prospective voters with money. He is openly paying N1000.00 per vote. Only last night, the Police warned Prince Eze to be of good behaviour after he was apprehended inside a sensitive area at the local INEC office in Dunukofia.

In the same Ukpo town, fighting broke out at the voting center located at Boys Secondary School between Arthur’s thugs and a videographer hired by the opposition candidate who was recording voting irregularities. The videographer was beaten up, his equipment forcefully seized and destroyed.

In Aguata Local Government, supporters of Andy Uba a candidate of Labour Party was seen openly soliciting for votes along major roads calling for people to vote for him. In a related development, agents of opposing parties from Uba’s village failed to show up at their duty posts. They explained that Uba’s family members threatened them with harm if they worked for other parties.

Eye witness report say members of the Labour Party at Umuzocha WardII, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State are disorganizing voting process.

The Labour Party is supposedly a political platform that grew out of the trade union movement and socialist political ideology expected to seek workers' representation and one that describes itself as a democratic socialist party in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, at Uli Ward I, thugs of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and party agents of the PDP stopped people from voting.

At Ekwulobia Ward II, no INEC staff was present and no voting taking place at the polling unit as at 2:00pm.

At Idemili North Ward I, only 15 voters were allowed to vote while at Aguleri Ward I, names of registered voters not corresponding with the voter identification number (VIN) on their cards.

Reports from Ogbaru say that Hon. Chuchu Onyema a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ogbaru Federal constituency of Anambra State has snatched a ballot box from Ogwuikpele alongside his thugs. His first attempt was last night, at the INEC local office which he invaded with his thugs but was resisted by the Police. Still at Ogbaru, 3nos ballot boxes were snatched by thugs suspected to belong to PDP at Okpoko Ward 06. Agents of opposition political parties at the ward have made reports to the Police and INEC.

At Obosi in Idemmili North, it appears the Police has made the decision to postpone the elections at Chuke Hall after it was determined that PDP thugs would cause harm to voters present. PDP had imported thugs numbering over 200 into the area and they engaged in voter intimidation. Obosi is a strong hold of the AC candidate, Dr. Chris Ngige. It is also the home of Osita Chidoka, a Soludo sympathizer. Frank Zubis filed the report from Obosi.

In Oyi Local Government, it is reported that Mike Nwakalor, a PDP stalwart resident in Abuja imported thugs which he used in snatching 3 ballot boxes from Uko village and Nziko Civic center voting areas at Nteje Ward I. In same Oyi, Dr. Chudi Nwike, a former Deputy Governor reports of threat to the lives of voters at Ogbunike Wards 1 and 2 by PDP thugs. The thugs were escorting students hired to cast votes for the ruling party.
