No More Delay: Declare Yaradua Incapacitated

February 7, 2010
The Save Nigeria Group, organized labour and other stakeholders in the Nigerian federation too numerous to mention here  met on Monday, February 8, 2010 and deliberated on the state of the nation. The group reviewed the refusal of the Executive Council of the Federation to boldly declare President Yaradua incapable of exercising executive function as mandated by Section 144 of the Constitution. The group views this failure as a serious breach of their responsibility and an act of aggression against the Nigeria people who have suffered the indignity of a President’s abdication of responsibility, which has damaged Nigeria's governance and reputation.
The group is also displeased with the immoral politics of the leadership of National Assembly that has frustrated the efforts of some of the federal legislators who wanted to protect the constitution.

It is now clear to us that members of the so-called Yar'adua Kitchen Cabinet- the First Lady, Hajia Turai Yaradua, the Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Michael Aondoaaka, Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abba Ruma; the Chief Economic Adviser, Dr. Tanimu Yakubu, the Minister for the FCT, Alhaji Adamu Aliero, the National Security Adviser, Gen. Sarki Mukhtar and others are working hard to plunge Nigeria into chaos and disaster.

Their refusal to allow transition of power for the sake of the nation is an act of aggression against the nation and high treason. Obviously, they have resolved to invite the military to destroy Nigeria’s democracy instead of handing over power

We can no longer appeal to their good sense anymore. They have turned deaf ears to the appeals of several Nigerians including Eminent Elders Group, the media owners and other compatriots. We are listing them in the hall of infamy and asking Nigerians to hold them responsible for any consequence from this contrived crisis.  The issue at stake in this crisis is critical for the continued existence of Nigeria. We call on members of the Executive Council of Federation to do the right thing and declare at this meeting this Wednesday, February 10, 2010 that President Yaradua is incapable of exercising executive power having been incommunicado for 78 days. If they fail to do this, they risk the indeterminable wrath of aggrieved Nigerians. We can no longer wait. The threat to democracy is real and present. If the persons authorized by the constitution cannot act, the people will act.

Let us state clearly that we have started mobilizing the Nigerian people-workers, students, religious leaders and market women –to march through the streets of Abuja and shut down all activities in FCT forthwith until we get the resolution that will save democracy.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
