Finally, SSS Releases El Rufai From Detention

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who was arrested this morning by the State Security Service, is a free man again after the publisher of Thisday newspaper; Nduka Obaigbena intervened on his behalf.

 Mr. El Rufai was granted bail with Obaigbena,  as surety.  Both men left the Yellow house headquarters of the state security services accompanied by El Rufai’s second wife and assistant around 11: 10 PM Nigerian time. Mr. El Rufai has been told to return to the SS headquarters on Monday for routine questioning. He spoke to SaharaReporters briefly from his Abuja home

Mr. El Rufai was arrested today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja upon arrival from the United Kingdom where he had gone to help present the CPC's position at Chatham House, the influential foreign policy institution, in London.

The influential member of the Congress for Progressive Change was arrested over a critical  opinion article he penned which attacked Nigeria government spending on security service.
