Civil rights attorney, Femi Falana, delivered this speech at the protest today: "We thank Mrs Ganiat Fawehinmi for organizing this historic rally to protest insecurity, increase in tuition fees in LASU and planned removal of fuel subsidy. Although Chief Fawehinmi left the family in comfort,  Ganiyat , Mohammed and Saheed have matched with oppressed Nigerians in fighting injustice.

On Boko Haram:

Since Nigerians and foreigners of all faiths, agnostics and atheists are targets of islmaist insurgents Boko Haram's bombs, leaders of religious and ethnic groups should unite in fighting the menace of terrorism.

On LASU School Fees:
The payment of tuition fees ranging from N250,000-N350,000 by LASU students cannot be justified in lagos state where the minimum wage is N18,000. If not reversed only the rich can afford to educate their kids in a public university. Every child who is able should not be disabled by official policies.

On Fuel Subsidy:

On fuel subsidy the fgn shd fight corruption in the petroleum industry. As far as the fed min of fin is concerned only N240billion is needed to subsidize fuel import in a year. Hence that was the figure passed into law by the National Assembly. The Nigerian gov't should name and publicly prosecute its officials who colluded with the so called oil cartels to modify the 2011 appropriation act by increasing fuel subsidy from  N240 billion to N1.4 trillion.

With the reform of the port by the finance minister, payment of demurrage is no longer part of the landing cost of petroleum products. Import duty can also be waived to further reduce the said sum of N240billion.
With less than 240b the economy will not collapse contrary the false alarm of the Central Bank Governor.

The group told Saharareporters that  another protest specifically targetted at the fuel subsidy removal will take place on January 3rd 2012
