Occupy Nigeria: Anti Fuel Subsidy Removal Protests Erupt In Kano

Despite pleas by Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso that citizens of Kano State should shun the mass protests going on in other parts of Nigeria following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government, angry youths this afternoon stormed the streets, chanting anti- Goodluck Jonathan slogans and demanding his resignation.

Observers described the procession, especially in view of the efforts of the governor to ensure that it did not happen, as unprecedented.

Members of the police and armed forces were grounded, unable to exercise control over the protesting youths.

Kwankwaso had addressed people of the state urging them to disregard any form of participation in the protest which he said was purely Federal Government policy.  He called on the people to maintain calm and ensure maximum peace and law and order in Kano State.
