Yesterday, the leadership of the Boko Haram identified the man as Abu Darda, who is the head of the militant sect’s enlightenment committee, and not Qaga.

A man claiming to be the “real” Qaga said in Maiduguri yesterday that Darda was in Kaduna to meet government officials ahead of a possible dialogue meeting, but was pounced upon and arrested by a Joint Task Force team, and foreclosed further dialogue opportunities.

Our security source said his agency is simply a security agency doing its work.  “We don't play politics,” he said.  “Decisions on dialogue are taken at the political level.”

And then, with reference to the arrest of Qaga, he asked, “Why would someone who they claimed came for dialogue contacts hide under the bed?”

Asserting that he does not want to be drawn into argument with any group, he said, “The person we have been trailing for months and now have him with us says he's Abu Qaqa. He did not say he is Abu Dardaa, except they impersonate in their group.”

He further wondered why it took Boko Haram “so many hours to launch a propaganda on a 'missing/arrested' Abu Dardaa, and subsequently buy enough time to assemble another Abu Qaqa"
