Abeokuta Court "Acquits" Former Governor Gbenga Daniel Of Corruption Charges

A state high court in Abeokuta, Ogun state today discharged and acquitted the former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel of corruption charges. In a ruling similar to the 2009 court decision "acquitting" now convicted former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, from corruption charges in Asaba, the Ogun state high court judge stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, had not provided sufficient evidence of corruption against Mr. Daniel.

In a ruling similar to the 2009 court decision "acquitting" now convicted former governor of Delta state, James Ibori, from corruption charges in Asaba, the Ogun state high court judge stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, had not provided sufficient evidence of corruption against Mr. Daniel.



Shortly after stepping down as governor in 2011, Mr. Daniel was accused of money laundering, fraud and corruption and later slammed with 43-count charges relating to substantial corruption arising from his 8 year as the governor of the state.

The EFCC has not reacted to the ruling as at the time of filing this report.
