Donald Payne, The US Congressman Who Supported Pro-Democracy Movements In Nigeria Dies At 77

US Democratic party rep, Donald Payne, the long-time New Jersey Congressman for the 10th congressional district has died after a brief battle with colon cancer.

US Democratic party rep, Donald Payne, the long-time New Jersey Congressman for the 10th congressional district has died after a brief battle with colon cancer.

Congressman Payne died three days after he was flown back to New Jersey on a medical transport plane as his condition degenerated one month after he made disclosures that he was being treated for colon cancer.

Mr. Payne is a longtime supporter of pro-democracy movements in Africa particularly Nigeria where he led several congressional hearings to help push the military out of power.
