In a statement in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, the Party said that in line with the declaration of its new National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Turkur in his acceptance speech that the PDP shall combat the pervasive culture of corruption in the country, it will soon undertake a “multi-dimensional engagement” with the Federal Government with a view to broadening the dragnet of anti-corruption crusade.

According to the PDP, “the Bamanga Turkur leadership of our Party has taken a holistic reflection on the cankerworm of corruption and is resolved on a multi dimensional engagement with the Federal Government to fight corruption and stop this deadly moth from eating out the soul of our dear nation.”

The Party expressed regret that in a nation richly blessed by destiny, a huge chunk of the population daily go to bed hungry not because government is not committed to citizenry welfare but for reasons of  greedy few who battle on all fronts to undermine good governance.

“Our vision for greatness cannot be transformed into reality in the horizon of corruption. Corruption has eventuated a severe disjuncture between the promises of greatness and the virtual lots of the mass of our people. As part of our rebirth agenda which is in line with the transformation programme of the PDP led Federal Government therefore, the PDP is ready to orchestrate a change in the tapestry and tenor of the war on corruption.”

The statement said that Dr. Turkur has commended the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for its positive roles in bringing the suspects of the pension scam to account for their roles.

“The sleazy tales of national shame oozing out of the Pension probe is an undisguised heinous crime, an inhumanity to mankind. To deny at sunset, the wages of men and women, compatriots whose morning and afternoon were engaged in toils for fatherland is the most wicked toga and colour of corruption. “

The statement further urged the EFCC to spread its search to other ministries and agencies of the government so as to expose and bring to book, this tiny percent of over 170 million Nigerians obsessed with attrition against good governance.

The statement did not say exactly how the party will approach a situation where its members are nationally-believed to behind corruption in Nigeria and its governors spend security votes recklessly.  Many Nigerians question a situation, for instance, where President Goodluck Jonathan, the leader of the PDP, claims to be fighting corruption whereas he has refused to declare his assets as prescribed by the constitution.
