Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Attahiru Jega yesterday beat a hasty retreat from the wedding of the daughter of the Emir of Kazaure as irate youths in the city hurled stones at his car, damaging some vehicles in his convoy.

The youths had converged at the scene of the wedding and were in a celebratory mood when word filtered out that Mr. Jega had quietly arrived at the wedding venue. The youths became restive, and plotted to send a message to Mr. Jega. The INEC chairperson’s luck ran out as he tried to exit the venue of the wedding. Many of the youths hurled stones at Mr. Jega’s convoy, accusing him of rigging the 2011 election in favor of President Goodluck Jonathan.   “Professor Jega managed to escape, but several cars in his convoy were dented and some of the glasses broken,” a source who was at the wedding told SaharaReporters.
