Residents hearing the familiar story began to flee to their homes, while other worshippers became confused on hearing the suicide attack and hurriedly took their families home.

A source at the ECWA Theological Seminary in Jos, who did not want to be identified told our reporter of the tension in the city and of people abandoning streets and businesses for fear of the unknown.

The source said heavily-armed security officials have been dispatched to Ahmadu Bello and Ali Kazaure areas in an effort to avoid a full-blown blown crisis between Muslims and Christians.

Another source added that security has also been fortified around Bauchi Road, but that gunshots are being heard from some parts of the town.
