A Coroner’s inquest into the cause of death of 153 passengers on board DANA flight 0992 which crashed into a residential area at Iju-Ishaga on June 3, has been suspended to permit the retrieval of the bodies from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital morgue, it was announced today.

The decision consents to the plea by Mr. Akinjide Bakare, counsel to the Ministry of Justice, that the court allow the break so that the next of kin could collect the bodies of their loved ones from the morgue. The inquest is to continue after the collection ends.
Counsel to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority [NCAA], Mr, Babatunde Irukera and Mr. Femi Falana [SAN] of the Falana and Falana Chambers that called for the inquest, also agreed to the plea.
The Chief Medical Examiner at the LASUTH, Mr. David Adewale Oke said a total of 132 bodies were identified in all by DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) testing done in the United Kingdom, also, he stated that some 16 bodies were burnt so badly that DNA tests could not provide certain identification.
According to the schedule released today by the LASUTH Authority, 20 bodies will be released per day until Monday.
The coroner, Mr. Oyetade Komolafe ruled that the inquest will continue on Tuesday.
