According to a relative, Dapo died July 27, 2012 in a freak train accident occasioned by a rush during the London Olympics. He was buried in London on August 15, 2012.
He was a quintessential writer, commentator, analyst as well as a technologically savvy young man who offered his technical services for free to any platform that uses the Internet to promote freedom in Nigeria.
A pioneering member of the Nigeria Village Square, he was also a prominent player among the discussion site's technical crew.
A statement released by NVS described Mr. Osewa as a fierce patriot and firm believer in the future of Nigeria. In addition to being a frequent online contributor, he also lent his technical prowess to help build such online sites as NVS and SaharaReporters
Aged 31, Dapo was born in Akure, the capital of Ondo state. He attended the Federal University of Technology Staff Secondary School, Akure, graduating in 1998. He later obtained a National Diploma in Electronics at Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. In addition, he earned a diploma in Information Technology from the University of Pretoria.
In 2003, Dapo became a certified Microsoft engineer before heading to Huddersfield University in London where he completed his studies for a degree in law in 2011.
Before his death, he worked for the UK national archives as a linux system administrator and data capture specialist.
During his short stay on earth, “Dapxin’s” activism enabled him to touch many lives, especially those of thousands of people he never physically met. Several friends and acquaintances in London described him as an inspiring and exuberant presence who always seized any opportunity to organize people to pursue the common good. “He worked tirelessly and selflessly to achieve a just and egalitarian society in Nigeria,” said a London-based friend of his.
