Boko Haram: Curfew in Potiskum Continues, No Attacks Recorded

Sources, who called Saharareporters from Potiskum, said that security is tight in the area and that from all indications the Sallah will be celebrated on Friday without any hitches, as opposed to recent violence and killings in the town.

The military Joint Task Force (JTF)our sources said,is spread out all over the town, watching over movement and searching all vehicles coming in and out of Potiskum.

The Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, announced the Potiskum curfew on Monday, citing security concerns.

His media aide, Abdullahi Bego, said as follows: “This is to inform members of the general public that His Excellency Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, has approved the imposition of restriction of movement in PotiskumTown beginning from today Monday, 22nd October, 2012 from 4.00pm to 7am daily. This decision was taken following a meeting that His Excellency, the Governor had with heads of law enforcement agencies in the state. The measure is designed to ensure the protection of life and property and the maintenance of law and order.

“His Excellency, the Governor urges all Potiskum residents to cooperate with security agents as they continue in their effort to ensure peace and security in Potiskum and around the state. The Governor also extends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies  to the families of those who were killed by criminal gangs and those whose properties were burnt in Potiskum, over the last few days.

“His Excellency assures Potiskum residents and all the people of the state that his administration will do everything within its power to assist and partner with the security agencies to maintain law and order and protect the life and property of the people. The Governor also calls for more prayers for the Almighty Allah (SWT) to restore peace in our state and the nation in general.”
