New York, NY- President Goodluck Jonathan has finally removed his veil of pretense over his false claim of a fight against corruption despite the ludicrous sloganeering of the past.

Evidently, the current administration ranks as one of the most corrupt administration in the annals of the history of our country. Under this government we have witnessed blatant acts of corruption being condoned by the government notably the perpetual oil subsidy scam with the administration's conduct monumentally damning!

The recent pardon granted to a fugitive of justice, DSP Alamieyeseigha who is still wanted by law enforcement officials in the United Kingdom is indeed an opprobrium brought upon all citizens of Nigeria by a government that clearly condones corruption thus displaying its badge of dishonor by this unpresidential pardon. The United States government has also seized properties traced to him as products of proceeds of illicit activities and money laundering. The investigation of DSP Alamieyeseigha in the United States has been dubbed as a pointer to the success of tools and policies that apprehend crooks who see the US as a safe haven to hide loot by corrupt foreign government officials, to grant such a person pardon shows the disconnect between Nigeria and global effort to curb corruption and protect masses of countries where these ill gotten wealth are stolen from since such could assist in providing much needed infrastructure.

Nigerians have been brought to international disgrace and ridicule in the past including Alamieyeseigha's reported escape from the United Kingdom disguised as a woman but this pardon accentuates the role of government in what Nigeria has become and her failed promises and truncated greatness.

How does any serious government that has failed to address a single issue in a dysfunctional society as ours and such a society is reputed to have been brought to such a sad state through heartless acts of corruption especially by government officials and their cronies choose a state pardon for someone who looted public treasury of mind boggling sums as a good signal to its citizens and the international community as an effort to combat the menace of corruption?

This act smacks of tone-deafness, insensitivity and impunity. The intention of government in this instance is to leave no-one in doubt on its mission and indeed its legacy.

The NDLF hereby calls on Gen Buhari who has built his reputation in the past as being against corruption to dissociate himself from this inexplicably, unconscionable pardon which was reported as a decision of the Council-of- State with Buhari as a member. Without dissociating himself from this egregious show of shame and an official endorsement of corruption by the Jonathan administration, the former head of state would have lost a significant part of his self-acclaimed anti-corruption bona fides.

The NDLF also calls on all Nigerians to appreciate the fact that the current government is bereft of ideas and solutions to the myriad of problems plaguing the country, we should therefore organize ourselves to take our country back.
