A source in Kafanchan who told SaharaReporters of the plan said the inexperienced governor, who has only spent a few months in that office, may spend about two days in the area.

The source further said that millions of Naira from the coffers of Kaduna State and the eight local government areas in Southern Kaduna, comprising Jaba, Sanga, Kaura, Kagarko, Zankon Kataf, Kauru, Kachia and Jema’a has been earmarked for the parley.  Several categories of people are expected to be “settled,” that is, paid off, or coerced into joining Governor Yero’s gubernatorial bid in 2015. He also explained that local government chairmen, commissioners and other top government officials are presently working on selecting those that will be part of the gathering.

Among those that the governor will discuss with are traditional rulers, the elite, women leaders, development associations, religious leaders and youth leaders of several inclinations, in the hope he can seal a political “agreement” ahead of the 2015 elections that is projected to be very competitive.

“The whole thing is to neutralize opposition and to lobby for support ahead of 2015,” he said. “The government is experiencing serious opposition and so they are using this approach as a basis of buying support and as well reduce pressures.  There are growing armies of youths in Southern Kaduna, who are mobilizing against PDP and even the elite, hence the governor was told to commence moves towards neutralizing them too.

He described them as being real threats to the PDP, noting that some of them are charismatic figures who, going by the trend of events in Southern Kaduna, can influence changes.

The Commissioner of Information, Mr. Seidu Adamu, could not be reached when we called his line from our New York office.
