At least 15 persons were killed and over 20 are still missing following yesterday’s violence in Zangan, Kaura Local Government Area of troubled southern Kaduna State.  The story of the new attack by Fulani herdsmen was first carried by SaharaReporters last night.

Habila Kumai, who is currently in the area and among those picking up the dead, told SaharaReporters today that the corpses are mainly of children, women and men, and that they died from bullet wounds and deep knives cuts.

He said houses were burnt down in dozens and hundreds of villagers have deserted the village. Kumai also noted that the soldiers recovered bullets and other evidence of the weapons the unknown gunmen used in the attacks.

The source blamed the problem in Southern Kaduna area on the area’s weak representation in both the National and Kaduna State Assemblies, regretting that the legislators have been unable to bring to the front burner the killing spree being perpetrated in the area by Fulani headsmen.

“What do you expect from people who knew nothing more than just grabbing power, and just money?” he asked.  “What do you expect from insensitive lawmakers, more so, a serving Senator whose husband is a Fulani feudal in Southern Kaduna? She bought the seat and what do you expect? Nothing, they must wake up, government must wake up and all leaders too, because this thing is getting out of hand.”
