A former Lagos State commissioner, Prof. Kunle Lawal, has died.
Family Sources in Lagos said Lawal, who served in the Ministry of Education, and then in Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, told SaharaReporters died in the early hours of Christmas Day at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.

It was gathered that the former Professor of History of the University of Ibadan had been sick for a long period, during which he was flown abroad last June. His illness resurfaced about a week ago and family members took him to LASUTH.
The late Lawal, who was 54, served his commissionerships during the second term of Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2003.
But he resigned to pursue his political ambition in the state under the umbrella of the Democratic Party Alliance, where he became the gubernatorial running mate of the party flag bearer, Mr Jimi Agbaje.
After the party lost to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), he was widely reported to have decamped to the progressive fold before his death.
Prof. Kunle was born on the 9th of May, 1959, into the Awori clan of Ojo and Lagos Island, to the Late Haruna Ayinde Lawal of Itafaji and Epe and the Late Kehinde Lawal.
He attended Jama at ul Islamiyya Primary School, Ebute Elefun, Lagos between 1965 and 1971, Lagos City College, Sabo-Yaba, Lagos between 1972 and 1976 and Federal School of Arts and Sciences, Victoria Island between 1977 and 1979.
He obtained a B.A. (Hons) History in 1982, M.A. History in 1984 and Ph.D History in 1991 from the University of Ibadan.
He is married to Mrs. Hajarat Oluwatoyin, and they have several children.
Residence at his Ojo home disclosed yesterday his remains would be buried in accordance with Islamic rites
