NDLEA Recorded Increased Drug Haul In Bayelsa in 2013 - Commander

The Bayelsa Commander of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Frank Hanacho, said today the agency arrested 244 drug suspects and seized 223.16 kilograms of hard drugs in 2013.

He was speaking to reporters in Yenagoa, where he gave the breakdown of the suspects as 191 males and 53 females.  By comparison, he recalled, the agency seized 132.73 kilograms of various hard drugs in 2012 and arrested 219 suspects.

He said the 2013 numbers indicate a marked increase in the rate of arrests and seizures by the command.

The Commander also announced the arrest in Yenagoa on Sunday of a 23 year old suspected drug dealer, Loveday Eferebo.

"Loveday Eferebo as of the time of his arrest was found to be in possession of 39 grams of  cocaine as well as drug distribution paraphernalia including a drug weighing scale machine, amongst others," he said.

Hanacho warned all drug dealers or would-be drug dealers that the state would have no hiding space for them in 2014, advising them to withdraw from the illegal and nefarious trade and assuring the public of the agency's commitment to make the state drug-free.
