The gunmen, according to police, struck in a village, Rapyem in Barkin Ladi local government and attacked a few houses where the nine children and the adults were battered with machete cuts and sporadic gun attacks.

The source said the children were fast asleep when the gunmen stormed their village, and could not escape as some adults hence they were left at the mercy of the militia.

The source in the village who confirmed the attack alleged that the gunmen were Fulani herdsmen, an allegation the Fulani had always denied.

“As far as we are concern, it is the Fulani militia that are carrying out these attacks. Nine of our children killed like rams in their own sleep. We are helpless in our own land and government and security agencies cannot protect us.”
