EFCC Press Release: Lawyer Bags 5 Year Jail Term For Fraud

Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja under on February 28, 2014 convicted and sentenced Barrister Ibrahim Abdul and A.I Associates to 5 and 2 years imprisonment respectively for criminal breach of trust.

 
The accused persons were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on one count charge of criminal breach of trust contrary to section 311 of the Penal Code.

The first accused, A. I. Associates was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with option of N5 million fine while the second accused person, Barrister Abdul was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with an option of  N20million fine.
 
The convicts were arrested in 2008 by operatives of the Commission for offences bordering on criminal misappropriation of fund to the tune of N17m belonging to Associated Medical Relief and World Medical Relief.
 
Barrister Abdul was first arraigned on May 17, 2010. He was alleged to have tricked the chairman of Associated Medical Relief and World Medical Relief to deposit money recovered by EFCC from the then secretary of the organization to his account and converted same for personal use.
