A statement by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said that the operations are meant to capture and neutralize all the enclaves of criminal gangs.

The Nigerian Air Force, Police and other security agencies are participating in the operation.

General Olukolade called on law-abiding citizens to cooperate by providing timely and useful information about their localities in order to facilitate the operation there.

One problem is that affected communities often complain that when they try to reach the authorities during attacks, they are ignored until when they assailants have completed their mayhem and departed.

General Olukolade did not address this subject, or provide any phone numbers by which the public can reach the commanders of the new operation.
