The former coach of FC Barcelona died on Friday, after battling cancer over the last two years. Tito Vilanova was 45.

The former coach of FC Barcelona died on Friday, after battling cancer over the last two years. Tito Vilanova was 45.

Although, the former coach underwent surgery in December 2013 to correct symptoms connected with cancer of the parotid gland, the surgery brought mixed results.

Vilanova had been recuperating since then, said those close to him, up until his death on the 25th of April 2014.

The official twitter handle of FC Barcelona made the announcement on Friday evening. The tweet read, "The FC Barcelona is in immense mourning. Tito Vilanova has died at the age of 45. May he rest in peace."
