Algeria has qualified for the Round-of-16 at the FIFA World Cup, much against the expectations of many a pundit. The North African team, started off losing to Belgium but came back to beat South Korea by 4 goals to 2, before drawing 1-1 with Russia to book a second spot in Group H.

Algeria has appeared in the finals of the FIFA World Cup on four occasions; in 1982, 1986, 2010 and 2014, but have never made it beyond the group stage.

At Brazil 2014 however, the Algerians have exceeded the expectations of a lot of pundits and set some new records. They now hold the record for the African country to score the most goals at the World Cup finals after their 4-2 thrashing of South Korea. They have also beaten their own record by barging out of the initial stages of the mundial for the very first time.

Algeria joins Nigeria as the only 2 countries out of the 5 representing Africa to make it to the Round-of-16.
