Ondo Courts Shut Down Following Judiciary Strike

The Union is calling on the Management of the Ondo State Judiciary and Judiciary Service Commission to stop holding any administrative positions in the state, which it preserved is not agitating for the rights of JUSUN members in the state.

All courts of justice in Ondo State are now under lock and key, following a strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, in the state.

A SaharaReporters correspodent toured many of the courts and reports that no activity was taken place in the courts. Gates and entrances to the courts were locked, while no staff could be found around. Members of the union commenced their strike on Monday after a failed negotiation between the executive members of the union and the Judiciary Service Commission, JSC, including top management of the Ondo State Judiciary system.

The Union is calling on the Management of the Ondo State Judiciary and Judiciary Service Commission to stop holding any administrative positions in the state, which it preserved is not agitating for the rights of JUSUN members in the state.

It also said the Judiciary Service Commission has refused to fashion out a new scheme of service for registrar cadre, stressing that the union wants the cadre changed from registry assistant to a substantive registrar, just like its been done in other states. According to the Union, many of the judiciary staff members were denied promotions, while some who had applied for conversion of service were refused consideration.
