The Kano State police commissioner, Aderinle Shinaba, confirmed the deaths shortly after visiting the scene of the gruesome terrorist explosion. Mr. Shinaba also disclosed that 34 others, most of them students and lecturers, sustained various degrees of injury in the attack.

Before attacking the college, the two suicide bombers had exchanged gunfire with some security operatives in the city. After the gun duel, they stormed the college lecture theatre and detonated two explosives.

“There was another insurgent who was carrying AK 47 and explosives,” said the police chief, adding that a security operative had shot the would-be suicide bomber, leading to his death after his explosive went off.

“So far we have been able to recover some of the AK47 rifles and magazines. So far 15 people are dead while 34 others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention in the hospital,” said the police commissioner.
