CAF Allows Fans To Vote For First Time In Latest Awards

Since its inception, only national team coaches, captains and selected sports journalists have been involved in the selections; but the introduction of the “Goal of the Year” and “Save of the Year” prize, to celebrate the most tremendous goal scored in any of the continental competitions and the best save have seen the confederation open up the selections to involve the continent’s diehard football fans, who have been yearning for such an opportunity via online voting.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), will for the first time since it started conferring its awards in 1992, allow football fans across the continent to take part in the voting process.

The Awards Gala will see players and officials who have distinguished themselves during the year receive honors for their achievements, in areas including the prestigious “African Player of the Year” and 15 other categories. Other categories are African Player of The Year, National Team of The Year, Club of The Year, Referee of the Year and Coach of The Year.

Events for the 2014 Glo-CAF Awards will take place on January 8, 2015, in Lagos, Nigeria.
