Loyalists of embattled Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have embarked on an illegal membership registration exercise throughout the State, the State Chairman of the party has alleged.

In a press statement in Akure on Monday, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi stated that some supporters of the governor have been parading themselves as Chairmen and Secretaries of the PDP across the 203 wards of the state and carrying out the illegal recruitment and distribution of party cards.

Mr. Alabi stressed that the exercise was fake and that the process emanated neither from the National Secretariat nor the State office on Oyemekun Road, Akure.

The State Chairman also alleged that the governor and his cohorts have planned to thwart the progress of the PDP in the Ondo State, saying that the setting-up of a parallel secretariat in the Alagbaka area of Akure shows that Mimiko’s defection to the PDP is in pursuit of a personal agenda.

“We are aware that these elements with the support of Governor Olusegun Mimiko who joined the party lately are bent on constituting themselves as clogs in the wheel of progress of the PDP in Ondo State,” the statement said.

"The level of impunity the Governor [had] exhibited since he joined the party is unfathomable, ungentlemanly and undignifying of the exhorted position he occupies.”

Mr. Alabi further stated that in addition to the contempt of setting up the parallel secretariat, Mimiko and his supporters proceeded to embark on the illegal registration of members.

“The leadership of the party in Ondo State is coming to term with the bare fact that Mimiko is joining the party to pursue a self-agenda and personal vendetta,” he said.

While urging officers of the State Security Service and Nigeria Police Force to pay attention to the level of impunity being displayed by the governor, the party said it would resist any form of imposition.

“We [urge] all party members to take note of the development and [distance] themselves from the illegal registration and report any act that could undermine the constituted party authority to appropriate security agencies.

“Our party is united than ever before to deliver all available votes to Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan come 2015. We shall resist any form of imposition of candidate and dissolution of our state executive," the statement concluded.
