IGP Urges Politicians To Approach Electorate Directly, And Avoid Unlawful Activities

November 19, 2014

Ojukwu said the IGP further urged members of the political class and their followers who have grievances to seek redress in the court of law, and avoid disturbing the peace of innocent, law-abiding citizens. “The incident though provocative and uncivilised, ended without any confrontation as the Police exhibited maximum restraint in the face of ceaseless provocation by these leaders and their motley crowd,” the statement said.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, has advised politicians to take their campaigns to the electorate, rather than engage in disruption of government activities and the daily chores of Nigerians who are pursuing their lawful businesses.

Police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu said the IGP made the statement on Wednesday when some politicians, led by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi barricaded the entrance gates of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He did not say why the event took place, or whether the politicians requested an official meeting.
