Aide Kidnaps House Of Representatives Deputy Majority Leader’s Stepmother, Demands N50 Million

November 24, 2014

It was reliably learned that when security operatives from Asaba were tracking the kidnappers’ mobile lines, which they were using for the negotiation, one of the lines was shockingly traced to the aide. At this junction, the aide was said to have been invited by his boss to his country home in Ozoro. There the mobile line was tried and immediately the suspect's phone rang. He was allegedly beaten inside Ogor’s country home, where he was said to have made some confessional statements.

A ten-man kidnapping gang led by an aide to the House of Representatives Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Leo Ogor Okuweh, is reported to have kidnapped the legislator's stepmother last week.

SaharaReporters learned that the lawmaker’s stepmother, Mrs. Martha Ogor Okuweh, was kidnapped at her home at Idheze community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State by an armed gang led the federal lawmaker’s aide, Mr. Edafe Oriomaro.

According to our sources, as the ransom was been bargained, Ogor had already involved the services of the President of the Isoko National Youths Movement, called Victor (alias Last Mugu) and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Asaba, who put all machineries in place to track down the kidnappers and arrested the aide and two others.

However, the news of the kidnap, which the federal lawmaker allegedly warned his aides, relations, and political associates not to discuss with the press or any other individuals has caused serious backlash in the area.

A relative, speaking anonymously, said “Oga was so disappointed when he saw that it was Mr. Edafe Oriomaro, his aide, that was involved in the kidnap of his mother. Oga was so bittered, this was an aide he recently empowered with a car and every month he pays him the sum of N30,000 as salary and other entitlements but still went ahead to kidnap Oga’s mother.

“Oga warned all his aides including us, his family relations, that under no circumstance must the story go out, especially for the consumption of the media because he doesn’t want it discussed in the public domain. As we talk, try and call any of his aides about this issue and you will see how they will react to you."

Sources close to the Ogor’s family stated that the kidnappers had demanded for a ransom of N50 million, later cut short to N30 million before the kidnappers and were arrested by the anti-kidnap squad from the police headquarters in Asaba.

As at the time of this report, SaharaReporters learned that Ogor’s mother was rescued and she was relocated. Some sources said she was taken to Abuja while others say she was flown abroad for medical treatment.

Another version of the story has it that this same kidnapping gang-master minded the kidnap of one Mr. Amos, a legal aide to the deputy majority leader sometime ago. An unconfirmed report has it that one of the kidnappers involved in the deputy majority leader’s mother case was alleged murdered at the Ozoro police station after his arrest while others are still at large.

All efforts to reach the state police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, and the deputy majority leader were unsuccessful as calls and text messages sent to their mobile lines were not responded to.

Police sources confirmed the arrests, saying that two kidnappers are in detention in police headquarter, and assisting the police in their investigations.
