Niger Delta Youths Plan To Attack Buhari Over Stoning Of Jonathan's Convoy In Katsina

January 22, 2015

"Now that General Buhari’s supporters, with his knowledge, have decided to carry out consistent attacks on President Jonathan and his supporters, we wish to state clearly that we shall retaliate. We call on supporters of President Jonathan all over the nation to be ready to defend and retaliate any attack on them by General Buhari’s supporters. General Buhari is preparing the ground for the fulfillment of his promise that the blood of the baboons and monkeys would flow in anticipation of his impending defeat in the February 14, 2015 presidential election. We are ready and will give an eye for eye this time around."

Following the alleged attack on the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) presidential campaign convoy in Katsina, a Niger Delta youth organization, called the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Thursday, threatened a retaliation attack against the campaign team of the presidential flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammad Buhari.

IYC, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Eric Omare, said that though the Ijaw youths have condemned the attack on Jonathan in Katsina, the decision to retaliate is based on the confirmed involvement of the APC and the insult on the people of the South-South region for the reception accorded Buhari during the party campaign tours.

"The stoning of President Jonathan was done by supporters of General Buhari during his campaign to Katsina State. The attack clearly shows the violent-prone [sic] and irresponsible nature of some of General Buhari’s supporters. Nigerians would also recall the burning of the campaign buses of President Jonathan by supporters of General Buhari at Jos last week," Omare said.

"We expressed our disappointment with General Buhari for instigating his supporters to attack President Jonathan’s convoy in his home state of Katsina. Buhari has clearly breached the Abuja Accord and demonstrated his violent-prone [sic] nature. It would be recalled that when General Buhari came to the South-South to campaign, especially Bayelsa State, President Jonathan specifically instructed that everything should be done to ensure that Buhari’s campaign was not disrupted in any way."

"Hence, the IYC made several radio announcements and set up a team at the Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa to ensure that the campaign was trouble free. Now that General Buhari’s supporters, with his knowledge, have decided to carry out consistent attacks on President Jonathan and his supporters, we wish to state clearly that we shall retaliate. We call on supporters of President Jonathan all over the nation to be ready to defend and retaliate any attack on them by General Buhari’s supporters."

"The experience of 2011 where several supporters of President Jonathan were killed without provocation must not be allowed to repeat itself. General Buhari is preparing the ground for the fulfillment of his promise that the blood of the baboons and monkeys would flow in anticipation of his impending defeat in the February 14, 2015 presidential election. We are ready and will give an eye for eye this time around."
