Boko Haram militants have launched an attack on northeastern Nigerian township of Gombe this morning, as military and insurgents take on each other in a fierce battle, a local said.

A resident of Gombe who spoke to Saharareporters said soldiers and the insurgents are currently engaging in a fierce gunbattle around Dadikowas some 4km away from Gombe, the state capital.
"They came around 6am this morning as I am speaking to you we are under serious attack now, Boko Haram members are trying to invade our town, they are very close by here and the soldiers are engaging them. We are all inside our houses now. Everywhere is quiet except for the sounds of shooting and explosions",said the resident
