Death Toll Rises To 22, Hospital Overwhelmed in Potiskum

A medic source told SaharaReporters on the phone that "6 more people died in the hospital, in addition to 16 others brought in earlier…now we have 22 corpses.” The source said over 45 injured people are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit.

The death toll from a suicide bomb at a bus station in Potiskum has risen to 22, a medic on the scene told SaharaReporters.

The hospital source lamented that the hospital was becoming overwhelmed with injuries from Tuesday’s blast, with more than 200 injured people in need of medical attention.

A medic source told SaharaReporters on the phone that "6 more people died in the hospital, in addition to 16 others brought in earlier…now we have 22 corpses.” The source said over 45 injured people are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit.

A police source, who is not authorized to speak to the press, said "the casualty figure may rise because there are still some critically injured."

Earlier it was reported that a male suicide bomber killed 16 people on a Toyota bus parked at a bus station located on the outskirts of Potiskum town of Yobe State.

A commercial driver Usman Waziri who witnessed the scene said “a man came on a tricycle came into the park and entered a bus getting passengers to Kano. A loud sound of explosion was heard soon after.”
