Defamation of Character: Asiwaju Tinubu Threatens To Sue AIT For N20 Billion

“Clearly pre-occupied with political resentment and hatred neither warranted, necessary, proper, or justified, you published several false allegations against our client,” the letter said. “More disturbing is your misrepresentation that the said documentary was "sponsored" without disclosing the "sponsors". You cannot under law, hide under media freedom to maliciously injure a citizen's reputation".

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to sue the management of Daar Communications Limited, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT), for N20billiion.

The demand is in response to what he considers the ‘defamatory content’ of a documentary aired by the station on Sunday.

In a letter on Monday, Asiwaju Tinubu’s counsel, Mr. Tunji Abayomi, asked Daar Communications to apologise for the content of the hour long documentary and stop airing it.

Tinubu is demanding the money as the cost of the damage done to his reputation, failing which he will sue AIT.

AIT was given 24 hours to confirm receipt of the letter, tender an apology and retract the documentary.
