First Lady, Patience Jonathan, Congratulates Buhari’s Wife

The outgoing First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has congratulated Aisha, wife of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on her husband’s Avictory at the March 28 poll.

In the election, Mr. Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, polled 15,424,921 votes to defeat the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, President Goodluck Jonathan, who scored 12,853,162.

In a statement by her media adviser, Ayo Adewuyi, on Wednesday, Mrs. Jonathan wished the incoming First Lady in well in her new assignment.

Both Mrs. Jonathan and Mrs Buhari had conducted separate campaigns for their husbands before the elections.

At a campaign rally in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Mrs. Jonathan declared that Mr. Buhari, a former military head of state, was brain dead.

“Wetin him (Buhari) dey find again? Him dey drag with him pikin mate! Old man wey no get brain, him brain don die pata pata,” she said in pidgin English.

In Calabar, the First Lady had also said those chanting “Change” (APC slogan) should be stoned.

Mrs. Jonathan, who at some point burst into songs during the campaign, taunted Mr. Buhari, saying “If you vote Buhari, na prison, if you vote APC, na your wahala.”

On her part, while campaigning for her husband in Benin, Edo State, Mrs. Buhari advised Mrs. Jonathan to prepare for life outside the Presidential Villa rather than being afraid that her husband (Mr. Buhari) would jail Mr. Jonathan and other PDP politicians if he elected.

“For those campaigning that he is coming to jail Nigerians. I don’t know what their fear is,” she said.

“But they shouldn’t be afraid because we are all yearning for change. The insecurity in the country, the very poor healthcare system, lack of education and other basic necessities people are lacking I believe Nigerians need somebody like General Muhammadu Buhari to fix them.”
