“I Was In The Farm When I Received Mimiko’s Call To be The New Deputy Governor,” Lasisi Oluboyo Says

“I was in my farm carrying out the official work given to me by the people of Ondo State this morning, when I received the phone call of Mr. Governor (Mimiko) that I should immediately proceed to the House of Assembly," the new Deputy Governor said.

The newly appointed Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lasisi Olugbenga Oluboyo, on Monday said he was at his farm when he received a phone call from Governor Mimiko, that he was being appointed to succeed the impeached Deputy Governor Ali Olanusi.

Oluboyo, who spoke shortly after he was swearing-in ceremony at the Coco Conference Hall of Ondo State government building by Eyitayo Jegede, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Oluboyo said he was “shocked after he had received the call for his nomination” by the Governor and subsequent appointment.

Lasisi Oluboyo, 53 years old, comes from Ikare Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State. 

He revealed how Governor Mimiko directed him to immediately proceed to the House of Assembly, where he had already been made the ‘sudden’ Deputy Governor of the State upon Olanusi’s impeachment.

“I was in my farm carrying out the official work given to me by the people of Ondo State this morning, when I received the phone call of Mr. Governor (Mimiko) that I should immediately proceed to the House of Assembly.

“I was shocked and I began to question myself, that what am I going there to do? But now, am very happy that the house has just announced and confirmed me as the Deputy Governor of Ondo state,” he said.

Oluboyo, who pledged his support for the people of the State repeatedly assured that he would be ‘100 percent loyal’ to Governor Mimiko, who had chosen him to become the new Deputy Governor of the State.

“I want to thank you, and am very grateful to you. I want to assure the people of Ondo State, that am going to give my loyalty in 100 percent to Mr. Governor (Mimiko), and I will join him to work for the people of the State.

“I am going to build a synergy between the executive arm of government and the legislature, and I promised that I would not disappoint you. Your problem, God forbid would be my problem, Your joy, would be my joy.

“As a Muslim, I own you a duty, and the duty is to pray for you and I shall continually pray for the progress of the State,” he said.

Until his appointment, Oluboyo was the Commissioner for Natural Resource before he was later appointed as the former Commissioner for Agriculture after a cabinet reshuffle.

The Assembly had at the early hours of Monday carried out the “kangaroo” impeachment of Ali Olanusi as the Deputy Governor of the state following 7 allegations of gross misconduct.

A panel of investigation Chaired by Retired Chief Magistrate, Olatunji Stanley Adeniyan had submitted the report of its investigation to the Speaker of the Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, after he had found the Deputy Governor culpable of all the allegations of the gross misconduct.
