The Lagos Makoko Community, off Apollo street, has bee under severe attack by a gang of hoodlums for three days, SaharaReporters was told today. The hoodlums indiscriminately attacked residents in the area, damaging property and pilfering their belongings. This area has never known such agitation, according to local residents.

A landlord in the slum area said their association has reported the most recent onslaught at a nearby police station, but the attacks have continued with no response from the authorities.

Although the landlords claim they do not know the cause of these attacks, some residents told SaharaReporters that  Sam Erejuwa, a leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in the area, has been identified as orchestrating the attacks.

One of those residents alleged that Erejuwa, a local chief, is using the invasion as a vindictive action against Apollo residents in an open fight with an opponent.

The OPC leader is said to have had an altercation with a miscreant who then launched an attack on him in the street. Erejuwa is alleged to have responded by sending out his own hoodlums to attack the neighboring Apollo Street for not commiserating with him following the attack.
