The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, issued a statement denying any involvement with pressuring the Nigerian government and the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to apprehend Senator-elect Buruji Kashamu of Ogun State.

Fayose’s statement, issued through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said that “the comment must have been generated by desperate political spin doctors to link him with what he knew nothing about.”

The Governor also said that, "For all intent and purposes, the issue relating to Prince Buruji Kashamu is not political and I as a governor does not have anything to do with it."

Mr. Kashamu and Governor Fayose have had a history of conflict with one another, according to reports Kashamu was denying important campaign funds to Fayose during his gubernatorial race in 2014. At the time Buruji Kashamu was the Coordinator of the South-West Mobilisation Committee, responsible for dispensing some campaign funds.
